Kailash Mansarovar via Kyirong

The journey begins with an early morning drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, passing through the scenic Langtang National Park. The road trip offers beautiful views of green hills, rivers, and Himalayan peaks. Syabrubesi serves as an acclimatization stop before crossing into Tibet.

After breakfast, we drive towards Rasuwagadhi, Nepal’s border town. After clearing Nepal and China immigration formalities, we enter Tibet through the Kyirong Border. The journey continues to Kyirong town, where we rest and prepare for higher altitudes.

We begin our ascent towards the Tibetan plateau. The drive crosses Pekhu Tso Lake, the Brahmaputra River, and Mount Xixapangma (8,027m), offering stunning Himalayan views. Saga is a Tibetan town where we halt for rest and further acclimatization.

Today is one of the most anticipated days of the journey. After breakfast, we drive towards Lake Mansarovar, a sacred freshwater lake considered the holiest lake in Hinduism and Buddhism. Pilgrims take a holy dip, perform puja, and meditate along its banks. A Mansarovar Parikrama (circumambulation) is done using environmental buses. We also visit Rakshas Tal and Chiu Gompa for spiritual blessings.

Morning rituals and havan (fire ceremony) are performed on the banks of Mansarovar. By afternoon, we drive to Darchen, the base camp for Mount Kailash Kora (parikrama). Pilgrims can explore the Tarboche Flagpole and Yama Dwar, the starting point of the Kailash trek. Rest and prepare for the upcoming trek.

The three-day Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation) begins! A short drive takes us to Sershung, where we start the trek towards Dirapuk Monastery, the north face of Mount Kailash. The trek follows the Lha Chu River through a narrow valley with prayer flags and chortens.

The most challenging day of the trek! The trek begins early to ascend Dolma La Pass (5,640m), the highest point of the parikrama. The descent leads to Gauri Kund (the sacred Lake of Compassion). The trail then follows the Zhong Chu Valley, leading to Zuthulpuk Monastery.

The final leg of the Kailash Kora is a short trek (8 km) along the Barkha Plain. Our vehicle meets us at Zhong Chu, and we drive back to Darchen for lunch. Later, we head back to Saga, retracing our route.

After breakfast, we drive back from Saga to Kyirong, enjoying the beautiful Tibetan landscapes one last time. This is the last night in Tibet before crossing back into Nepal.

After completing border formalities at Rasuwagadhi, we drive back to Kathmandu. The trip concludes with a hotel drop-off, where travelers can relax or explore the city.
